It is crazy to think that we are in our last week of the first six weeks! With the end of the six weeks, we have an early release on Friday and a Teacher's Workday on Monday, the 23rd.
This year our students will take an IStation reading assessment at the beginning of each month. The goal is to see student growth in specific reading categories. We honored our top achievers this past week. They have their picture hanging on the wall, received 15 House Points, and got to wear a super hero cape all day. Each month we will honor the highest achiever as well as the top growth student starting in October. Any student who grows each month on IStation will get 10 House Points and the top growth will get 15 points.
This week I will visit each of the classes and go over our Bobcat House Store with the students. They students have given us some great ideas of things they would like to earn points to work towards. The PAWS Club gave a VERY generous donation to provide awesome prizes for our students. The Bobcat House Store will be found on the RCA app, and students will have certain days they can "spend" their points for prizes. We hope the store helps motivate them to work harder academically and behaviorally to earn themselves big points. Be looking for information coming home!

This school year we are going to focus on student attendance. Some say it takes 10,000 hours of quality practice in somthing (sports, music, reading, math) to become an expert in it. When a student misses school they are losing the ground to become the best they can be.
If a student misses 10 days in school year = 4,930 minutes/82 hours of instruction lost
If a student misses 10 days a year every year during their elementary years, they will have missed: 34,510 minutes/575hours of instruction. WOW!
We want our kids to be set up success and not struggling to make up the exposure they lost from being absent! This year we are going to have a STRIVE for FIVE goal--no more than five absences for the school year.
