Candy Donations
Our Fall Festival is a community event being put on by many of our secondary classes and organiztions. We would love to see lots of kids there to enjoy the games and treats. Elementary classes are raffling off some great baskets of goodies. There will also be a cake walk and a haunted house. Admission for most games are free. The cake walk and haunted house are additional fees. There will also be a vendor that will be making custom t-shirts on site as well as food trucks!

Thank you to all that have donated so far!

In order to help the clubs, organizations and classes with candy, we would appreciate any candy donations. Donations can be brought to the school. We thank you in advance for any donation of candy!

Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon week is coming up and we have a lot of fun things planned to help students "SAY NO TO DRUGS" The theme this year is "Life is a Movie, Film Drug Free". We will have dress up days and a photo "Movie" booth for students to take pictures in making the pledge to be drug free. Dress up days start on Friday Oct. 25th- Friday Nov. 1st. This is a great time to start having conversations with your kids about why drugs/substances can effect their development and learning.

Bobcat Band Header
Band News:
The Smyer High School Bobcat Band performed at the Region 16 UIL Marching Contest on Saturday. They had their best performance of the year. The band received a 2, 3, and 3 from the three judges. Our band put out a very entertaining show and they have worked very hard to get it on the field. I am very proud of their efforts and the product of their hard work. We will be performing the entire show one more time on Friday night at the home football game vs. Seagraves. We would love to have everyone stay and watch the show and show their support for these students and all their work over the past twelve weeks.

Blood Drive
Smyer ISD will host a blood drive through Vitalant for the Smyer Community. Adults and children 16 years of age or older may participate if you weigh at least 110 pounds, and meet all donation criteria. *Minors must have the proper consent forms filled out by parent/guardian prior to the child donating. Vitalant offers "Honor Cords" for graduating seniors that donate at least 3 times with them before graduation. SISD had 3 seniors get this honor last year!! If you are interested in participating in the blood drive or would like to know eligibility requirements or would like more information, please contact Nurse Summer- summer.stracener@smyer-isd.net. Donating blood may help save a life, we appreciate anyone that is able to help!!

Strive For Five
Attendance Matters
This school year we are going to focus on student attendance. Some say it takes 10,000 hours of quality practice in somthing (sports, music, reading, math) to become an expert in it. When a student misses school they are losing the ground to become the best they can be.

If a student misses 10 days in school year = 4,930 minutes/82 hours of instruction lost

If a student misses 10 days a year every year during their elementary years, they will have missed: 34,510 minutes/575hours of instruction. WOW!

We want our kids to be set up success and not struggling to make up the exposure they lost from being absent! This year we are going to have a STRIVE for FIVE goal--no more than five absences for the school year.
