It is hard to believe we start our 5th Six Weeks this week! This year has gone by super fast!
Congratulations to our February IStation Top Performers and Top Growth students. We had a blast at our Valentine's Day Dance on Friday. Look for a K-2nd Dance coming soon!
Good luck this week to our 5th and 6th grade band students as they participate in Solo Contest on Thursday. Also, good luck to our 6th-8th graders participating in their first TMSCA meet this weekend at Atkins!
We will have a Hat Day this Friday. Students may wear a hat for $1.
Have a great week,
Mrs. Gibson

A note from Mrs. Langill:

What a great College and Career week we had the week before last! As a follow up I am providing some QR codes that you can have your child scan, search, and explore all different kinds of careers. This website has videos, pictures, and descriptions of many different careers that your child can learn about. The website is career one stop in case you want to look it up. Have fun exploring.

The Smyer Solo Contest is being moved to Thursday, February 20th. It will take place during their respective class periods from 1:30 - 3:30. Students have been working hard on their solos and I am excited for them to play for the judges.

This school year we are going to focus on student attendance. Some say it takes 10,000 hours of quality practice in somthing (sports, music, reading, math) to become an expert in it. When a student misses school they are losing the ground to become the best they can be.
If a student misses 10 days in school year = 4,930 minutes/82 hours of instruction lost
If a student misses 10 days a year every year during their elementary years, they will have missed: 34,510 minutes/575hours of instruction. WOW!
We want our kids to be set up success and not struggling to make up the exposure they lost from being absent! This year we are going to have a STRIVE for FIVE goal--no more than five absences for the school year.
